Wajam has brought its social search engine to iOS, embedding into the Safari web browser and Google Maps. Wajam aggregates information from social media accounts, turning suggestions or recommendations into search results - meaning that when a user searches for local restaurants, for example, the results will be bolstered with those recommended by friends.
"Bringing Wajam to the iPhone is an incredible breakthrough that gives mobile users the ability to access their friends' recommendations in the apps they already love and use," says Wajam founder and chief executive Martin-Luc Archambault. "Research tells us that 90 per cent of people consult with a friend or expert before making a decision. Prior to Wajam, no one had been able to integrate all your Facebook, Twitter & Google+ data within a typical Google search - and now we have designed a way to take that experience mobile."
Wajam isn't available as an app, but rather requires downloading an iOS configuration profile. It's a workaround to comply with Apple's rules, and one which could be brought to a halt by any changes Apple makes to its OS - but Wajam promises this is only the start, with plans to expand to other smartphones and search engines in the coming months.
